The way we have all been taught is to give your all to your vocation, go above and beyond and you will be rewarded. This agency has a fine example of this principle in Mr. James Eubanks. Mr. Eubanks has been an employee since 1965, starting out for just a few dollars per hour and now he is a Project Director influencing the lives of hundred of people each year to bring about a better community. His reward is knowing that the people he helps do not go to bed hungry and are provided help during their time of need.
Mr. Eubanks has dedicated his life to serve others less fortunate and ultimately leave this world a better place when once he lays down his burdens.
Mr. Eubanks doesn’t know the meaning of the word “failure.” He often can be heard saying, “Nothing beats a failure but a try,” a dictate taught to him by his mother. Mr. Eubanks is a practical man and will not relent until his mission is complete. That mission is, to help his fellow man and live his life for his creator.
Thoreau said, “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation.” This desperation is because they never quite accomplish the dreams of their youth or the ambitions of their adulthood. Mr. Eubanks has helped many through the years achieve their ambitions and allowed them to dream as he and his wife have opened their home and hearts. Ambitions of many have been accomplished because of his generosity and compassion.
James Eubanks will never experience or even understand desperation for his spirit and faith is steadfastly placed in the Lord and he never falters from his dedication. Life presents times when we must make hard decisions. Mr. Eubanks is at one of those times and we want him to know that his efforts in helping people achieve dignity are not forgotten and his legacy will live on with the Council of the Southern Mountains.
When one door of opportunity is closed, another opens. We pray that the door that opens soon for James Eubanks presents a life of fulfillment and glory to God.
It is my honor to name the 2007 CSM Employee of the Year award to James Eubanks, a 43 year veteran with this agency. The following is presented in honor of Mr. Eubank’s service:
There is a destiny that makes us all brothers,
For none go this way alone.
All that we place into the lives of others,
Comes back into our own. Edwin Markham
